To Do:
Talk about Public and private ownership
Sources of Income
Downloads: Companies make money in downloads from services such as iTunes or other media distribution platforms, by selling games, movies, music and even TV series, also services that have archives of pictures for use in photo imaging and etc.
As an example, Psy, the artist behind the song "Gangnam Style", has made roughly 2.6 million from just his iTunes downloads alone (And that's after apple takes their 30% cut) This doesn't even take into account his income from youtube views and other forms of distribution used and other platforms it is being sold from.

Advertisers: Advertising is everywhere today, you can find adverts in television, movies, games, on the internet, in the real world on billboards and other things in magazines and even just in the street or in public places as well as leaflets that can be handed out, so it is safe to say that we are literally surrounded by advertising, companies and organisations make money from selling this advertising space to people who want to advertise a product, or service.
This can cost a lot as a television slot can cost around 7000 to air a advert on prime time television.
This can cost a lot as a television slot can cost around 7000 to air a advert on prime time television.
Sponsorship: Sponsorship is when a company gives you money to wear their logo, or put their logo or product into your media, for example, famous athletes can be paid a certain amount to put a companies logo onto their sports outfit, another form of sponsorship is when a company or organisation gives a television producer some money to show off a product before, after or even during a programme, an example of this would be how talktalk would get a small spot just before x factor would come on, their logo would also be shown during the show.
Product placement: Product placement can be found in television, games, movies, digital imaging and even radio, this is when a company asks a producer to include their product into the media, for example, hot wheels paid a lot of money to be included in the Green Lantern movie, another example of this would be alien wear, and skypes product placement in the television show The Big Bang Theory.
BBC Licence fee: Everyone in the UK who watches or records TV as it is broadcast needs to be covered by a TV licence. This includes TV on computers, mobile phones, DVD/video recorders and other devices.
The Government sets the level of the licence fee. In January 2007 the licence fee was agreed for a six-year period with the amount being approved each year by Parliament. More recently the Government decided to freeze the licence fee at its 2010 level of £145.50 until the end of the current BBC Charter period in 2016.
Cinema box office: Produces make money from distributing their movies to cinemas, in turn, people go and watch these movies and pay money to see it. The amount made depends on the amount of people who went to see it, as well as ticket prices.
Franchises, formats: Franchises make money from selling their brand to companies to produce merchandise for that franchise, for example, Simpsons branded items, such as mini fridges, and cups, people buy these products based on their opinion of the franchise.
CD and DVD sales: CDs and DVDs are sold in shops and can range from movies, TV series, games, documentaries, music and even computer programmes. Media is burned onto a CD in factories and sold in shops like VHM and Game.
DVD rental: DVD rental can also range from movies, TV series and games, and are usually done in the same way except the customer pays a smaller price, and only keeps the product for a short span of time, examples would be Blockbuster, though this form of media is beginning to die out, with the rise of downloading and on line distribution.
